Raising Righteous Children

Praise be to Allaah.

Raising and educating children is one of the duties required of parents. Allaah has enjoined that in the Qur’aan, and the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also enjoined that. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

All praises and thanks are due to Allaah, and may Allaah mention His Messenger and grant him peace. To proceed:

Beware! The Evil Eye!

What follows are some brief points regarding the evil eye…

1. The evil eye is real.

2. The evil eye may come from people who (a) merely like something or (b) become jealous by it or (c) become envious against it.

3. Everyone who gives the evil eye is jealous, but not everyone who is jealous gives the evil eye.

Bismillaah, wa`l-hamdulillaah wa`s-salaatu wa`s-salaamu ‘alaa rasoolillaah, wa ba’ad,

My First Moments of Wearing the Hijaab…

Written by a Muslimah from the UK, February 2010.

May Allaah keep her steadfast and make her a role model for others to follow. Aameen.

(Don’t just skim through; read it all!)

I want to share my first moments of wearing the headscarf/hijaab…

Allaah says:

“O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allaah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (33:59 Surah Al-Ahzaab).

I didn’t understand it then, I really didn’t, do you really stop getting annoyed etc, but Allaah knows what I don’t. For Allaah is the most knowing, the Knower of all, hidden and apparent. There is one incident in regards to when I first wore the hijaab that I cannot forget, for the Words of Allaah is Truth! When making my way to my local station every day, I had to walk past a building construction place, a place where they were building a local community centre and there were foreign builders there every day doing their work. Whenever any woman passed by, they would say something to the woman and would whistle and harass her with their words. I was one of those women. Although at first I used to ignore them, it did start to annoy and bother me, I hated it, it made me feel uncomfortable, and this coincided with the time I started to read into covering, and wanted to cover. Cutting the long story short… The first day I wore my hijaab and walked passed this construction place, Allaah is my witness that not a soul amongst them said anything, nor did they bother to look and nor did they notice me or annoy me… For the Lord of Mankind has said: “O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allaah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” That day onwards, never did those builders say anything to me, nor did they annoy me!!!

Allaahu Akbar!

Moral Videos for All

Below is a link to a playlist which contains an excellent series of universal moral videos produced in a sort of  ‘mimed’ manner so that everyone can understand, ‘Arabs and non-‘Arabs. Many of these videos reflect how a Muslim should behave in certain scenarios and the character they should uphold…

Perhaps some of the scenarios individuals can relate to regarding incidents they may have encountered in their lives… All of the videos end with a hadeeth from the Prophet, sallAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

Bismillaahi`r-Rahmaani`r-Raheem

The Life of ‘Alee ibn Abee Taalib

By Dr Ali Muhammad Sallabi

  • You’ve fought the apostates with Aboo Bakr . . .
  • You’ve conquered the lands with ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab . . .
  • You’ve witnessed the compilation with ‘Uthmaan ibn ‘Affaan . . .

Now brace yourself for the ultimate journey with ‘Alee ibn Abee Taalib ! Discern truth from fiction … face the tyrants … a battle not to be missed !

Out now to purchase at your local Islamic bookstore !

Purchase from al-Hidaayah (I’m not advertising for al-Hidaayah… came across this link first, that’s all!)

This book is far more than a biography, as it discusses major issues that have their origins in the early decades of Islam, the repercussions of which are still felt today.

In this book, Dr Sallabi guides the reader through a myriad of hadiths and reports, peeling away the centuries-old layer of fabrications and distortions through which hostile elements both in the Muslim world and beyond sought to conceal the truth.

What emerges is a clear picture of the first great turmoil that engulfed the Muslim world and how the noble companions worked together to resolve these issues.

All praise and thanks be to Allaah, and may Allaah mention His Messenger, his family, his companions, and those who follow them in righteousness till the Day of Resurrection, and grant them peace. To proceed:

Always Think High of Allaah

Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim, rahimahullaah, debated with a Christian scholar until the truth became clear to him, but he refrained from entering Islaam on the grounds that the Christians venerated him and he said: I do not know any trade and I have not memorized any Qur’aan or grammar or fiqh. If I become Muslim I will go around the marketplaces begging from people. Who could agree to that? Ibn al-Qayyim said: That will not happen! How can you think of Allaah that if you give precedence to pleasing Him over your whims and desires He would humiliate you and make you in need of others? Even if we assume that that will befall you, what you have attained of truth and salvation from the Fire and from the wrath and anger of Allaah will be the most complete compensation for what you have lost. End quote.
[Hidaayat al-Hayaara, p. 119]
